Our Beaches

The beaches of Spartia, "Klimatsias" and "Thermadis", are ideal for lovers of clean beaches (shallow and warm waters).

They are not far apart, but the slope of the ground requires good physical condition to walk. The view of the beach from a geological point of view is impressive, as very close to it there is an offshore collision point of geological plates. In the rocky part of the beach the rock is extremely smooth and the relief is vertical.

The beach of Spartia...from above!

The beach of Spartia or Klimatsia consists of two sandy beaches separated by a small harbor in the middle, where boats and fishing boats are moored.

The left side is called Hatzokli and above the transparent waters, high impressive rocks of hard clay rise that give an exotic dimension to the landscape.

To the right is the main sandy beach with shallow, warm, clear waters, just what you need for a relaxing swim.

The photos are by Frangiskatos Ilias, taken high up on the Hatzokli rock, gazing at this impressive view.
In the church of Panagia, until the earthquakes of 1953, there were some pieces of old wood. According to tradition, these woods were from the wooden bed of the National Apostle Cosmas of Aitolos when he had also passed through Sparta during his tour to Kefalonia and the villages of Livathos around 1777. The same tradition said that once upon a time in periods of rain these wood, they made supplications in the open air and it was raining. After the demolition of the church, these woods were lost and thus the tradition related to the presence of Patro-Cosmas in Sparta also died out.

Cave in Kavos Liakas

The Cave at Kavos Liakas is another one of the ornaments that nature has created in Kefalonia. A unique geological formation, right at the point where the coast meets the sea. Spartia and its beach are lucky enough to host the Cave at Kavos Liakas, this geological formation, which attracts the attention of visitors.

It is located on the south coast of Kefalonia, in Livathos, while there are not a few who consider the Cave at Kavos Liakas a "work of art", sculpted by nature, the greatest artist! As the sea water enters the land, in a very elaborate way, the Cave at Kavos Liakas embraces it like a tunnel, opening the way to the sea.

The authorities and residents of the area have taken care of the environment, so the area around the Cave at Kavo Liakas is accessible to everyone, with a small bridge offering both safety and the possibility of better observation of this natural attraction of Kefalonia.

Liakas

On the beach of Liakas, on the right as we go down and next to the rocks in the sea, there is an iron Lantern about 2 meters high. This was placed on the edge of the Liakas slab so that the cape could be seen, it worked with an oil candle and had mirrors all around it to reflect the light. Before the earthquake of 1953 it has fallen into the water. When the waters are calm it is visible above the Liakas plate.
